The reigning Sportpesa Premier League champions Tusker Fc title defense campaign is still on the upbeat after beating Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 in a closely contested clash played at Ruaraka Stadium on Saturday 6th April 2017.
Midfield maestro Humphery Mieno notched the match winner in the 33rd minute after a low shot from Marion Tanguzi was spilled by Kakamega Homeboyz keeper David Juma creating a perfect chance for the midfielder to connect with the dead ball by tapping in past Homeboyz goalie propelling the Brewers to position four on the log.
Tusker Fc kicked off the match on a high note with Allan Wanga and Humphrey Mieno saw their attempts going narrowly wide before the visitors responded in the 11th minute when Wycliffe Opondo rounded up Shafik Batambuze to fire in a superb strike but Tusker Fc custodian Duncan Ochieng kept them at bay heading to the breather 1-0.
Meshack Karani wasted a golden chance to level the scores in the second half firing the ball off the mark with Brewers goalkeeper Duncan Ochieng off his line before Steve Wakhanya unleashed a brilliant low shot but Tusker Fc goalie punched the ball for a corner.
On the 60th minute Shafik Batambuze delivered a fantastic free kick setting up Humphrey Mieno to score his second goal but the receiver was late to connect allowing Kakamega Homeboyz keeper David Juma to easily pick the ball.
Charles Momanyi squandered an opportunity to restore the game to parity on the brink of second half only to head in off the crossbar with Tusker Fc on the other end replied through substitute Anthony Ndolo but his shot lacked direction seeing the ball flying over the bar to give the host three points after 90 minutes of play.
