KCB cruise to victory over Gor Mahia in a pre-season friendly.

KCB Fc cruise to a 2-1 victory against Gor Mahia Fc in a pre-season friendly match played at ABSA Sports Club this weekend.

The game kicked off on a frantic note with both sides playing in an end to end affair as the bankers continued to up their search for an opener puncturing Gor Mahia’s optimism and tame resistance with several attempts but Kogallo keeper Gad Matthews was unbowed when called for action illustrated with exemplary saves.

Gor Mahia Fc settled into the encounter with a brilliant chance to end the stalemate on the 38th minute when Peter Lwasa teed up a fantastic through ball finding John Macharia who was not clinical seeing his effort easily collected by KCB custodian Gabriel Andika.

A dizzying phase had KCB marauding up field from a counter attack on the brink of the first stanza when the ball deflected into the path of John ‘Mavado’ Mwangi inside the box before he was brought down by Dennis Nganga prompting the referee to point the spot. New signing Edmond Adem stepped up for resulting penalty kick burying the ball into the net past hapless Gor Mahia goalkeeper Gad Matthews giving his side a 1-0 first half lead.

The second half of this full-pelt clash started with no cessation of attacks mainly coming from the bankers whose control of the tempo oozed class demonstrating their bid to double the score but Kogallo easily fell into the trap on the 62nd minute conceding another penalty.

Former Wazito Fc midfielder Kennedy Owino was quick to take the spot kick but he was denied by Gad Matthews in a move to redeem him own error with a incisive performance.

Zedekiah Otieno’s side were not reprieve for long without an equalizer when midfielder Benson Omalla immediately threaded in a superbly weighted pass beating the offside trap tapping in past KCB goalie Gabriel Andika giving his side hope.

Gor Mahia Fc celebrations were short live moments later with James Mazembe on his comeback from injury when he found himself in a prime spot after a clearance deflected into his path floating in a shot that sailed through the bottom corner off Kogallo keeper Gad Matthews doubling their advantage.

The match took another twist suddenly with Jonathan McKinstry tutored side chasing down the game for an equalizer in the closing stages all in vein as KCB managed to defend their lead to the latter leaving them with no complains about the 2-1 loss.
